New Pens!

I got new pens for my birthday!  They aren't the moonlight pens but they are pens designed for darker backgrounds.

I also got some embossing things for my birthday, so I'll be playing with those things later!

Zentangle

I never knew zentangle even existed.  It was the way I did my doodles all along.  I never knew it was a "thing."  It's very cool to see it is!

And I've been working on my lettering, too:

Not enough Time!

I hate not having enough time for my art!

I only did a few things last night.  I haven't really finished one of them, either.  Need more time!!

This is "Blessed" in Chinese calligraphy.  I like it - not finished yet - need to write "Blessed" on it.

I like this one.  I think the background turned out pretty sweet.

Wordy Art

I am still playing with the printed pages!

The latest:

I got the pens at staples and they are staples brand, which is pretty amazing.  I really love them.  The paper is simple card stock which holds up amazingly well to the spray inks for the backgrounds.  I must say the ink doesn't always swirl as well as on the paper specifically made for mixed media, but I'm amazed at how well it holds up.

Ink Spray Backgrounds and Quote Art

Really enjoying the quote art!

Here are the latest:

I'm finding some pens do better on the darker backgrounds than others.  I've asked for some moonlight gelly pens for my birthday, so we shall see if I get those and what they do!  I'm running out of ink already on many of my pens.  I do like the glittery stuff that shimmers!

More Printed Art

I'm still working on the pages I did where I printed words on card stock and then did the spray ink backgrounds.  I'm really having a wonderful time and I think it is good practice for doing it by hand, which to me is the real art.

Here is what I did yesterday:

This last one was hand drawn, which has a more "arty" look to me.  Plus I don't feel like it's "cheating" since I did the lettering myself.  Not as pretty, maybe, but kind of cool.

Using the Printer

So, I've decided to go to the printer for help with my lettering.  I need to practice the fonts I want to be able to draw, so I did a bunch of backgrounds on printed quotes.  I used regular card stock because I needed something that would print well.

Here is what I did last night:

I really like the art.  This is what I've been trying to accomplish with my lettering.  I have some more printed ones to work on and then I'm going to try doing the lettering freehand again.  I really like these.

Lettering Art is Difficult

For being artistic, I sure do have a hard time with lettering.  Still, I'm having fun playing with it.  And my watercolor/ink backgrounds have been fun as well, though a bit dark.  I need to get some moonlight gel pens for coloring on the darker backgrounds - maybe for my birthday!

Here are some new pictures I've done:

I got some new inks to play with, so hopefully I will be able to work on some more backgrounds.  I'd like to try some different papers as well.

Working with Spray Ink

So I made all the backgrounds this weekend and decided to try and do a few things with them.  I have discovered that the backgrounds are pretty dark to be trying things on top ... I'm going to have to think about this.

I have ordered more inks from Rangerink.com with some lighter colors and we'll see how that works.

I did these last night:

I thought using metallic pens would make the colors of the letters stand out.  It kind of did.
And as you can see, I'm still working on my lettering.  I have a long way to go.

I like the dangles, but they are hard to see on the dark background.  It was a pretty background but I don't really like what I put on it.  You just can't see it very well.

I'm going to have to think about different options for these backgrounds.  Maybe even layering something else - some other kind of media on top.  I'll post them here when I figure it out!

Spray Ink Art Journal Backgrounds

Worked on backgrounds for my art journals today!  I ordered a bunch of dylusions ink spray off of the Rangerink.com site and have just had a blast working with them.

Now I just have to figure out what artwork to put on top!  I'm really loving the word art, with zentangles, of course, so maybe that will grace these pages.

I do think some of the backgrounds are going to be too dark to do some types of art.  I will have to experiment and see!
